Tour by Electric Vehicle
Roy Alexander (left) talks to Mayor Roar Jonstang (centre) and Kate Harrison (right) and Arne Magnus Berge (owner) about the advantages of using electric vehicles powered by 'green energy' from Norway's hydro stations. Norway has a long history of experimenting with such vehicles and is the home of the little 'Buddy' electric car (see later in photo library). The community has public recharging points for their vehicles.

Island tour
Nøtterøy's 20,000 community lives on a series of islands and water taxi is a popular form of transport. Here the party is about to embark on a tour of the islands to view conservation projects that are taking place at several locations.
-
Welcoming party!

Renovated farmhouse
This farmhouse has been renovated by a team of volunteers and is now used for educational and recreational purposes. It houses artifacts associated with Norway's seafaring history.
-
Honoured guests
The residents flew the Norweigian flag to welcome us to their island!
-
Renovated farmhouse
The house is prefectly restored and has a series of old items in the attic that local children are encouraged to seek out. Each item has a story attached to it and these are told by long standing residents - part of the educational role the volunteers play.
-
A proud volunteer
Now that the volunteers have completed this project, they plan to renovate a 'count's house' on another small island.

-
Solar thinking
The conservation area has solar panels for energy generation and uses wood burning stoves for heating.

Pretty community
Nøtterøy is peppered with these wooden houses and most people use a boat to get around - if they can find a mooring. Harbour space is in short supply.
-
Geological goldmine
Roy Alexander took lots of photos of the local glacial geology features such as this Roche moutonnée.

Oserød Primary School visit
Three classes from Oserød Primary School welcomed us and discussed climate change activities that are being taken by the children. They showed great awareness of global warming and discussed issues such as Norway's receding glaciers. The school is also party of the Lighthouse project for sustainable schools.
-
A song for the environment
Two girls from Oserød Primary School gave a remarkable performance that we hope to be able show on video soon.
-
Press gang
The school children were keen to write about our visit in their school newspaper and interviewed us for about 40 minutes
-

This is the Nøtterøy Cultural Centre where we held the public meetings and climate change exhibition in the foyer. The Centre has a fabulous 400 seat auditorium.

Business meeting at Maris systems
Jonathan Hall led a business delegation that met to discuss sustainability issues. The head of Maris, Steinar Gundersen told us that the meeting had given him a new idea that would help him to cut down on the number of flights his engineers make for systems maintenance.
