Ashton Hayes Going Carbon Neutral

Hundreds turnout for the launch of our community electric car, low carbon pavilion and fantastic new recreation field and playground

Cakes and bubble brought out a large crowd to listen to the primary school children take about sustainable living, updates on the microgrid and community electric car, and the results of our 2010 carbon footprint survey (see Diary of Events for more)

In October 2009, three members of the Ashton Hayes Going Carbon Neutral project were invited by the island community of Nøtterøy, Norway, to support their launch of a community 'going carbon neutral project. Here are some photos that record the visit.

Here we recognise the fantastic efforts made by groups of students from Chester University who have carried out our annual carbon footprint survey since May 2006.

Around 100 people came out on a wet and cold night to hear about all the activities with the microgrid, village shop and school renewable heating system.

In 2008/9 the University of Chester and EA Technology joined forces with the village and secured a £86,000 grant from Carbon Connections UK to study how a village like ours might assess its renewable resources and possibly generate its own renewable energy.
