Launch night 26 Jan 2006 - 400 people turn up
This photo shows just half the audience who came to the Primary School for the project launch. The other half were waiting in the wings and we had to repeat our short presentations so they could also hear the plans. The event was a great success thanks to the support of everyone from the school staff anf children, the Parish Council, Energy Projects Plus, Universities of Chester and East Anglia, WI, local business and Chester City and County Councils.

Roy Alexander explains the baseline survey plans for May 2006
Dr. Roy Alexander (now Professor Roy) explains to the public how the University student team will spend 5 weeks in the village in May 2006 carrying out a door to door survey to determine our baseline carbon emissions. The University committed to supporting the project for 5 years, with a fresh survey each year. We now have one of the most comprehensive energy use records of any English village. Just under 50% of the village completed the baseline survey.

Business support - a key to our success
Our village signgage and the English 'bubbly' we gave out on the launch night were financed through donations from local businesses. A total of £3700 was given in the launch month by a range of local firms who also helped in preparing the launch night. Here we see Lynn and Richard May of M & M Communications giving out drinks to the public. M & M has provided important communications support and finance since 2006 and we are grateful for their advice.
