June 2014 Activities

28 June: Kate Harrison travels to our long term friends at the Forest Row Energy Fair to give a talk entitled 'Ashton Hayes: How a Village Becomes Carbon Neutral'. The Talks Programme will take place in Forest Row Community Centre, Hartfield Rd, Forest Row, East Sussex RH18 5DZ.  24 June: Roy Alexander gives a talk about the village at the Sustainable Upton meeting, Chester (Photo left).

May 2014 Activities

31 May: At the Parish Council public meeting on the Equity Homes proposal for 15 houses adjacent to the Methodist Chapel the public call for an improvement eco friendliness of the development.

20 May: Garry attends DECC CECG meeting in London.

April 2014 Activities

17 April: Alison Bailey of DECC discusses issues surrounding Microgrids with Roy Alexander.

14 April: Shogo Kudo from Tokyo University, Japan, makes a second fact finding visit and meets residents to discuss the project. Thanks to Kate Harrison, Cathy Rounthwaite and Timebank for their support.

10 April: The Guardian newspaper runs a story about the project and features and interview with Kate Harrison.

March 2014 Activities

4 March: Team members attend Green Chester event to watch the showing of Project Wild Thing and hear about the success of DoNation. Thank to Alice Elliott for organising.

5 March: AHCEC Board meeting.

12 March: AHCEC Monthly meeting.

12 March: AHCEC and other folk meeting with Matt, Sam and Tom - founders of the "Veg Men" to discuss collaboration on village projects and sustainability. The Veg Men have made a big impact on the village - providing top quality locally grown salad and vegetables that are sold in the community shop.

29 March 8pm: Get Glo-ing with Earth Hour. Earth Hour celebrations from 8-9.30pm at the QEII field in Ashton Hayes. Lights will be switched off along Church Road from 8.30-9.30pm when we join with millions around the world to reduce our carbon emissions. The schoolchildren and families will be doing a glo-ing procession round the field. FREE glo-sticks and hot chocolate for all. Should be fun!

February 2014 Activities

9 February: (Left): Board members of AHCEC visit Vicar's Close to investigate whether the sheltered homes might accomodate new PV arrays.

16-19 February: Garry & Alex begin writing the history of the GCN project. We hope to publish a book, one day!

20 February: Ashton Hayes Resilience Meeting. The plan is almost ready for publication.
