Now in Association with

Ashton Hayes Community Energy CIC

Located in rural Cheshire, Ashton Hayes is a well knit community of about 1000 people that is aiming to become England's first carbon neutral community. We started our journey in January 2006 and since then we have already cut our carbon dioxide emissions significantly - by working together, sharing ideas and through behavioural change. We now have our community owned renewable energy company.

This website encapsulates our journey towards carbon neutrality and offers free advice and guidance. Please feel free to use anything from our website (we'd like a credit if you can).

Community electric car - see the specifications

Its not long now to the delivery of our Nissan Leaf community electric vehicle. If you'd like a sneek preview of what this car will offer, have a look at the Nissan website. We are hoping that the car will be available to residents who have held a full driving licence for over a year. Our plan is to use the CommonWheels system that we have just seen operating in the enterprising Norfolk village of Reepham.

See our new sports facilities

Here is an artist's impression of the new 'carbon neutral' changing rooms we are building in Ashton Hayes. The highlly insulated building will come complete with a PV array, solar water heating, and charge the new Nissan Leaf community electric car. Thanks to DECC and the Going Carbon Neutral team for their support and everyone else who is working so hard to complete the project. See also Fordingbridge website

Village to build low carbon sports facilities

Ashton Hayes Carbon Neutral Project has secured funding under DECC's LCCC programme to build one of the UK's first low carbon sports buildings on the community purchased recreation field, in the centre of the community. Plans are being finalised with the Ashton Hayes Sports & Recreation Association but the highly insulated building will also have PV and solar water heating panels on its roof which will contribute to the power and heat for changing rooms and the community owned electric vehicle - a Nissan Leaf, due for delivery shortly. More soon.
